Change means to evolve.....I believe the person, business or country who will do well in this period of “crazy economics”, will be the one who can adapt to change. Change begins first with oneself, then through this you regain personal power to adapt, leading to personal EMPOWERMENT!

For me, in this process I can look at my own vulnerability with courageous actions to face and transform my fears, doubts and the unknown, to assist me in this journey by beginning with a single step.

My virtual prèt-a-porter collection “Dreams” and I have a job that is worth knowing.

In some prisons, freedom has the scent of hot bread and rolls right-out of the oven, or just printed paper, a hot ricotta cheese, red wine, a bag of recycled PVC, or an organic cotton shirt with a slogan "Hard"... these are the extraordinary projects of working "inside" prison.

I have a job that is worth knowing and that’s in prison. While working on another project and eager to create a value for my apprentices; moved by their desire to realize a garment to demonstrate the magnitude of acquiring professional skills in the workplace and simultaneously maintaining value to young students of The Oliver Twist School specializing in textile design, in developing interpersonal relationships together with prisoners acting the part as “client/designers” and students acting as “textile suppliers.

I was faced with many challenges from start to finish [for reason that there were people opposed to this venture and our success], it gives me an enormous, joyous heart-felt pleasure to say on May 27, 2011 in the city of Como, my dressmaking and tailoring class presented their extraordinary prèt-a-porter collection “Dreams” (outside of the prison walls and far away from the sounds of heavy clanging-clanking keys, of course!) as a final event for this difficult and extraordinary project, entitled “Trame di Libertà” (“The fabric of Liberty”) and in collaboration with The Oliver Twist School ‘s fourth year graduating textile design class.

This project has many positive consequences for young textile students entering into a hard place like prison; offering a complete educational experience as if they were working for a true couture house of fashion “presenting and supplying” their fabrics together with the prisoners in the role of designers creating a prè-ta-porter collection, contributing to future leaders of the highest level as well as intensifying the working process.

Also involved in this project are companies in the Como area such as Lisa, renown textile company and Jozica Accessories, headed by the designer Carolina, who created a mini collection of necklaces, bracelets and earrings in perfect harmony and complimenting each garment. All of our original design sketches were then developed by Lectra, a highly specialized advanced technical computer program system known by every apparel company in the world, that produced “amazing” results.

So, from baked cookies to fashion in prison lets embark on a virtual “Dreams” fashion presentation, honoring five very talented, courageously determined women, each one expressing their dream to design and structured a garment according to their “own standards of beauty”, plus what would be her “dream outfit” to wear with “dignity” once she was liberated. And this really translates into “empowerment”! They all dreamed and believed..

Magda is from Poland and she dreamed...

“I am content, in peace and never tired or afraid of anything,

when I am sewing. Learning to sew has been always my dream”

[You could see that Magda had extensive thoughts that will live forever and imagined countless times this outfit. Magda has worked as a sewing machine operator in her native Poland, but she never thought ever of realizing her designs before].

“I imagined wearing my dress to an important event after 5 o’clock.

That is my preferred hour of the day“

Shola is from Nigeria and she dreamed...

“I love things that are pretty and feminine, not only to look at and also to make them.

When I am out of here, I want to learn also the things I do not know”.

Cristina is from Santo Domingo and she dreamed...

“As the teacher was speaking, I imagined this dream outfit in my head”

It will be only for this occasion, but I know it will be beautiful”.

[Cristina truly imagined this complete and beautiful outfit along with the difficulty to achieve it. As we collected information for the technical design of her outfit, I saw how she tried to make herself understood with the little Italian she knew. She did not take for granted the additional corrections as an opportunity learn and through this work, she also learned to behave differently, not only during the dressmaking and tailoring course with her classmates, but also in other times of the day].

Monica is Italian and she dreamed...

“Fascinated as always by the Arabic world...My ideal came from there.

My dream of going there traveling in this outfit”.

[Monica’s dream has a lot to do with reality. A nice jumpsuit easy to relax or for travel without sacrificing the elegance and the desiring those little details at the wrists, ankles, drawstring waistline and the softy draped pant leg. Monica is a free woman even where she lives, free to realize dreams in her heart and from a concrete source like work. A life no longer in pajamas and with the desire to reclaim her femininity that is not dead, just dormant. “In the future a job like this, may give me satisfaction and also economic opportunity to visit the countries I loves so much. But

this is already a great opportunity to express what's inside.”]

because the cut is ideal for me. I like very much to sew.”

A True Story

Monica was liberated one week before the presention of the “Dreams” collection. She returned to Como on the 27^th of May to model her designs and how happy we were to see and hug each other in liberty. I saw her beauty within her through her eyes. A week after that, Monica began a new job she found “herself“, working as an dressmaking apprentice for a world renown fashion house ,“Made in Italy”. She entered presenting herself, her work and literally asked for a second chance.

It was also a dream event for me in receiving

The Ministry and Department of Justice

The Association Cometa and The Oliver Twist School,

for making it possible the realization of this unbelievable and extraordinary project.

Authorities, prisoners, collaborators, families and students together with the fabric of our society all joining hands in a day of freedom.

As mentioned in my previous post my days with my students have given me the most incredible “life changing“ event, because. this is exactly what I have come to experience as their maestra, because education is an experience...teacher and student are learning together.”

DREAMS (Part 3) I have a job that is worth knowing.

A distance of one and half hour drive above beautiful Lake Como, Italy is where I work three days a week, dedicating my time, heart and soul to a social cause. A rewarding experience indeed! I have a job that is worth knowing about and it certainty does not lack human experience: I enter into a hard place touching difficulties and suffering at first-hand but, there is also the dignity of a person. I enter into my sunny lit atelier and see happy eyes and smiling faces (and not always)...saying to each and everyone of them “Buon giorno miei fiori“ (good morning my flowers).....our eight hour day begins with hugs, kisses, laughter and up-dates.

I have a job that is worth knowing and that is promoting further higher education through my professional training course; “The art of Italian tailoring and dressmaking”...instructing female prisoners in achieving a high level of artisan skills by means of using the “intelligence of the hands“. This translate into a mind-blowing experience especially to those who never knew of possessing “inner talents“. This is a dream. This training course also helps keep alive their dignity...dignity goes beyond blame.

My fashion school and atelier in prison includes every project phase, textile and accessory companies in the Como area, providing me with technical expertise, resources with significant social and educative value. and this enables me to go to work on extraordinary projects "inside" prison.

“I call this adventure...dreams“

The objective of my professional training course is in creating experts capable of working in autonomy supported by specialized technical competencies required in the apparel market today and generating the possibilities for future work prospective leading to a professional tailor, stylist or couture dressmaker.

Work is the most effective reintegration into our society for prisoners: The dignity of having a job translates into success and with that, there is hope for NO more delinquency. In addition, this incredible opportunity will introduced them to a “second chance“ and the possibility to desire and contribute positively to themselves, their families, businesses and to us “our society.”

My very fabulous and talented apprentices and I have other collaborations, with students from vocational schools specializing in textile design. This unique partnership has involved the construction of a prèt a portèr collection for women. WOW! This project is structured in a real full-time production environment, allowing relationships between apparently very different and distant worlds that really ever have dialogues: the reality of young people in vocational training, production companies and the reality of prison.

My days with my students have given me the most incredible “life changing“ experiences, because. this is exactly what I have come to experience as their maestra, because education is an experience...teacher and student are learning together.”

I must confess , I had several inner voices helping me while writing this post, it was not easy! I believe I have found my place. What do you think? I would love hearing from you.

Project: Dreams 2010-2011

La Cometa

On this very day exactly one month ago, I began teaching as a maestra of two courses in "Italian sartorial tailoring" and millinery to a special group of women, at Lake Como. I named this project “Dreams”. I am experiencing many unbelievable moments with incredible people from all walks of life with difference in thought, nationality, religion, beliefs, mind set and of action. And one incredible person of action is named Mr. Erasmo Figini. Erasmo, together with his brother Innocente, created a community organization called 'La Cometa Formation'.

As of 2009 the school “Oliver Twist”, establish by La Cometa Formation, offers instruction and professional formation to the under privilege, the unemployed, families with social economic difficulties and 250 students between the ages of 14 to 18 years old, recuperating lost scholastic school years, to achieve high artisan skills, by means of using the “intelligence of the hands“. Erasmo and three of his key collaborators, Marco, Franco and Barbara are assisting me in creating the orientation and educational process needed for my class.

The school “Oliver Twist", Lake Como

The school “Oliver Twist” means “adventure with an passion for education”. Oliver Twist was the “star” of Charles Dicken’s famous romance, that after many difficulties, and thanks to a person who took him in and introduced a better life and hope.

This was a project of restoration by the young artisans students of the Oliver Twist School, including fixtures, furniture and decorations in a villa of Liberty Style on Lake Maggiore, Como.

Contrada Artisans

When I first saw these lovely vintage glass jars with brass lids and on their rack, I immediately fell-in-love with them! They are original antique candy jars from Florence and are used today to contain beautifully-colored natural powdered tints, utilize for restoring and painting wood interiors. Just amazing!

Last Thursday evening after my lessons, I had the occasion to see a marvelous collection of antique chairs about to be restored into these outstanding beauties. I personally love collecting unusual chairs myself.

LOVE ACCENTS DREAMS (parte one)

This is my first post since I sailed away last July. As well as returning with new reflections, I am writing to you now with refresh feelings and a new point of view. I am a teller of dreamy tales in simple words; speaking about myself, my spirit at a specific moment, my experiences and emotions. Dreamy reflections are expressions that helps me, to direct my mental energy to sentiments that are positive and constructive. Searching equilibrium. It is beautiful to be able to re-read what I am writing you. I sincerely missed not writing to you. I truly missed not hearing from you. I did occasionally stopped by for a very quick cup of tea with some of you, leaving a brief comment on your post. I loved reading about you.

Last August, I received a beautiful gift, a calling requesting, to use and share my talents with a very special group of young ladies residing at beautiful Lake Como, Italy. I was invited to lecture and teach “Italian Alta Moda, the technical side of high couture tailoring. This means....revealing the high standards and secrets of “Made in Italy”. This is a dream. Made in Italy will always be known for “Made with and of the Finest“. You can see it when admiring workmanship, you can feel it by touching and you can feel it when wearing it. I have been commissioned and financed by the Italian State Board promoting further education. So, for the last four months, I have been preparing and writing lessons (no store brought books here ladies!) and developng samples. I will be giving and sharing my experiences also in millinery. My first day of lecturing was the 21st of December, the week of Christmas. This is a dream. I will continue to share this dream project with you as things proceed. In another blog titled “Retrospect”, in which I speak of “my journey of a thousands miles” from New York to Italy. Next year I will be presenting a new logo, millinery collection, a new blog and web site.

To my dearest,

Hoping all is well! My sincere apologies for not blogtrotting within the last weeks due to work overload. Trying to get work related situations organized before Italy closes-up. It’s vacation time and everything
(public offfices, pharmacy, food stores, cleaners, you name it...closes-up!

But I-love-it!!!

I'll have a chance to work in my atelier in total bliss, in preparation for my next collections alone with other projects; a new product line, a new Love Accents logo and web site. So, at this writting my lovely darlings I must say good-bye until next Fall. The Milan Menswear Fashion shows for Spring/Summer 2011 will be closing this Tuesday, but last Saturday there was an opening event celebrating one of the worlds most sought-out brand Made in Italy, Dolce & Gabbana. An evening presenting an exhibition of 20 years of menswear for Domenico and Stefano as well as three books; Icons 1990-2010 Dolce & Gabbana, Fashion Shows 1990-2010 Dolce & Gabbana and 20 years of Dolce & Gabbana for Men. (ed.Electra) This anniversary falls at a very significant moment also from the point of view economically, together with their vision of having constructed a solid house of fashion (including womenswear) with hard work without ever betraying their spirits.

Love Accents and The Finale Party-on-the-Nile.

Hello and welcome to my very special one day/all day "party-in-the-desert" event on the Nile. We are at Lake Nasser, at the banks of the Nile in lower Nubia. It is the worlds largest manmade lake and it stretches for 300 miles. Until a few years ago, the lake was the realm of fishermen and state guardians whose lonely duty is to watch-over the fourteen Nubian temples. I have invited my dearest friends and guests to celebrate and enjoy this heavenly paradise together.

Purse."Pandora’s Box" by Love Accents

I Love taking Pandora‘s box with me from daytime to evening...without having to separate the casual from formal. I designed this one-of-a-kind purse to contain all of your secrets.

Embellish with oriental flower motifs and expertly embroidered with burnished bronze color pearls, sequins and double antique chain with resin stones.

I love sailing. It is a sport that brings you in contact intimately with one, with yourself and with nature. So, I organized for all my guests to an adventurous event called “Wind Song”...whipers of gentle winds that ruffle the waters of the lake and the ochre sands of the boudless, burnished desert.

At last, it is late afternoon and I am really looking forward to a moment of relax with freinds and guest. After all, with all of preparations for this one day/all day "party-in-the-desert" event, I think what we all need is something refreshing. Awaiting for you are little boats with trasparent carbon crystal floor bottom to take you inside. An unforgettable experience...

I prepared very colorful refreshing cocktails such as; Ice Ment Julips, Strawberry Frappè with Lemon sorbet, Cassis Royale and Watermelon Black Pepper cocktail. I though maybe you would like to make a toast together with all of us, so here is the recipe for Watermelon Black Pepper cocktail :

Cut 2 pieces of fresh watermelon or

fresh watermelon juice.

Pour ¾ oz of a simple syrup.

Pour 2 oz Vodka over ice cubes and shake.

Double strain into martini glass and

garnish with black peppercorns.

Enjoy!

Love Accents I Love that Red by Revlon and a hat named...Fedora.

I have two beautiful memories of my mother; her collection of exquisite perfumes that left traces of her when entering in the house and her "fabulous" red lips. I do not have anying recording ever seeing her bare lips because she always wore red lipstick and that influenced me all-of-my-life, even until this day I wear the same color lipstick she used. Thank you mother.

Today, I will love to talk about my favorite lipstick named "Love That Red by Revlon created in 1951.

A vibrant red mouth is classic yet current...very stylish and never fails to look down right amazing especially if worn with the right dress or accessory. Personally thinking, it is a timeless red lipstick. I am known for always wearing this stylish, graceful, and whimsical color that my friends call me “Lady K”.

You will want to choose something you can easily wear with this color that will certainly give you that "look" you want. Wearing a hat like "fedora" creates a look that is absolutely breath-taking!

Glamorously cool and urban chic, I created Fedora as a custom made hat that is beautifully made in a red Italian silk satin.

Sensuously cut and finely tailored with double stitch details and gorgeously lined in red silk.

Being the best red out there in the market, I think Revlon's "Love That Red" is a true classic...good for work presentations, classy dinners and should be in every womans' make up collection. Please let me what do you think?

being accessorize glamorously in vacation and vintage inspired handbag...to collect!

In Italy, vacations are talked about, organized and booked nine months to one year in advanced or taken spontaneously in one minute. Vacations are a very serious matter here. I love Venice. I have been to Venice many times (in-season-out-of-season) and with each and every visit, I feel her arms opening wide and embracing me.

Venice has always inspired me and many every day people alike; politicians, artists and writers...like worlds famous Agatha Christie who wrote "Murder on the Orient Express".

The Orient Express is a name that has long been equated with the world's most exclusive luxury train with daily departuress to Paris! A romantic weekend vacation Venice-Paris via "The Orient Express" is maybe just what I need!

A journey into another world of romance, excitement and pure pleasure are all aboard...with the original 1920s carriages with their Lalique glass panels, wood burning stoves and Art Deco marquettes.

...and being accessorize glamorously?

As you would expect, I’ll bring alone my Venetian inspired handbag, "Veneziana".

I created Veneziana with a vintage inspiration that recalls 1940’s. An expressively feminine purse, made in black Italian silk satin with front and back pleats releasing into a soft, sensual, semi-constructed hourglass shape. Side inserts added, allowing for extra room.

Creatively decorated with green foliage, pear fruits as well as silver baguette beading delicately sewn on a dainty lace veiling. Stylish brooch and buttons made of crystal rhinestones creating aurora light reflections. Beautifully lined in black silk satin with matching silk ribbon tie closure, and label, Love Accents Couture Accessory, Made in Italy. Holds a small wallet, money and credit card holder, cell phone, keys, lipstick and gloss.

My visits to Venice are never completed without a visit to the world famous school of lace in Burano. I’ll leave you my dear friends with some photographs of the spectacular workmanship you’ll find there.

Pandora‘s box is a bag designed to contain all of your secrets. Embellish with rose and silver oriental flower motifs. Expertly embroidered on white organdie fabric are rose iridescent sequins, mother-of-pearl beads and crystal rhinestones creating aurora light reflections.

Silk rainbow stripe ribbon, creatively bordering the sides and framing the zipper closure. To ensure easy,
